letting go of the lists…

I do love a list…I make them regularly…and then don’t follow them….but they do help clear and focus the mind, and allow me to take the next step in the day…

Last week I thought I was going to get piles done, in certain directions, as per a certain list, but the week took a different turn….still productive, but also relaxing…it was all about letting go….
I still have not finished my felted blanket… it sits on my studio table, taking up every inch….and the question is do I finish it to clear the surface, or somehow put it aside until I’m more ready to work on it….still not sure! I have a bolt of organic cotton voile on its way in the mail, which is the fabric I want to use for this new homewares felt line…but it may be another 10 days before it arrives.
I do love how the white wool floats in wisps across the surface…stratus clouds….at least I can enjoy this view every time I go into the studio!
Instead of other felting work, I ended up doing lots of dyeing for orders this week….a week of playing with colours…
Fluffy wool roving and elegant sock yarns, absolutely inspired by our ocean walk last week….
…and then some other activities….I think our week has been going so well because we are working at playing attention to only what is most important, a bigger picture, and letting go of the small niggly bits! And with 4 of us (this week) in a small space there are lots of niggly bits!  An exercise in not letting the details get in the way….It’s all about focal point, hey? Sometimes you need to focus in, recognize and appreciate the details….and sometimes we get too involved in the macro, and need to draw back and take a landscape shot…
On Sunday, we all sat down with some watercolour paints and just played with colour …not trying to make anything in particular….we were used to paint together every week, but haven’t done so for a long time….it was such a quiet, soothing, refreshing activity….Absolutely about the process and not the finished result….I was used to do watercolour veil painting…just 15 minutes a day, everyday, while I was preparing lunch…I’d like to add this into my day again…

I’m taking on this paying attention to the big picture as my theme for this week. Not so many lists (I can always go back and use my ones for last week, if I want- my current lists would probably be the same!) and instead picking one big overview for the day…today it is shipping orders…and all the little things and everyday-ness will fit in around that….I’ll see how it goes!
 Warm wishes,
Fiona

Dear Heather! Thanks for coming by and drawing me out of my blogland shell! How amazing to see your lanterns- they are beautiful!
I haven't finished the blanket…I've decided to wait until the organic cotton voile arrives….so today I'm turning my blanket layout into three wool lock embellished scarves, in order to clear my table! But first..a flower hunt! then some felting! a lovely day! XOX Fiona
