Felt Gathering2021-12-07T22:58:02+00:00

FELT GATHERINGS may resume in 2023, when international travel may be more fully open again in a safe and reliable way.

I was the international tutor at the Southern hemisphere Feltmakers Convergence in 2015. I was so impressed by the way this conference is organized, with an emphasis on sharing ideas, skills and building community. I’ve been thinking about this model ever since. A felt gathering.

We will gather in this gorgeous island setting for 4 days, with each day including three or four 20-60 minute long demonstrations of techniques. These will be led by participants of the gathering.  When you apply you can submit a proposal for something you want to share. The rest of the day is all free felting, using these new techniques, or working on a project you want some mentorship with, or might not have room for at home, or want to dedicate this special felting time towards. You can also choose to use this free felting time to take in the beaches and mountains and gather your creative nourishment from the setting.  In the evenings we will have an artist talk, creative discussion, or another demonstration, then more felting time. We all leave by water taxi, following our last sharing session after lunch on Wednesday, September 11th.

This idea emphasizes sharing and community. Many of you have taken many workshops, which are invaluable to our creative practices but can also be expensive. Sometimes what we most need, is some relaxing time, while learning from one another through the sharing of ideas and inspiration.

You would leave the gathering with 9 -12 new techniques from the demonstrations, plus so much more learning from all the conversations that develop during the felting time.

The Felt Gathering will take place in a relaxing and inspiring west coast setting,  on Gambier Island, just one hour north of Vancouver. There is easy access from the city, and from the airport. A water taxi is available to transport everyone to the venue. The water taxi leaves from Horseshoe Bay. The venue offers a great workshop space, amazing food, grown mainly on the property, and a very nice accommodation building. This is comfortable camp style accommodation, using the lower bunks, with each accommodation room shared with one other person. This building is very clean and has a wonderful living room/ kitchen area.  There are beautiful grounds, beautiful beaches, surrounded by beautiful mountains! Ahhhhh!

Costs: $750.00 CDN including water transport from Horseshoe Bay, 3 nights accommodation, including bedding, all meals, 9-12 technique demonstrations, plus unlimited felting time and great conversation!
