Only basic materials are required for this project.

  • 20 grams/ 0.75 ounce each of three main colours of wool (60 grams/2.25 ounces total). These should all be from the warm side of the colour wheel or the cool side.
  • Very small amounts of 2 additional wool colours- one that is analogous (next door in the colour wheel) to one of main colours above, and one that is complimentary (opposite on the colour wheel) to one of the main colours.
  •  10 cm/ 4” square black prefelt
  • 10 cm/ 4” square white prefelt
  • 10 cm/ 4” square red prefelt
  • 5 grams/ 0.2 ounce silk or plant fibre- something lustrous like silk, ramie, viscose or tender
  • 5 metres/yards pencil roving- do try and get this, but you can use a thin strip of wool fibre or a wool yarn instead. Each will give a slightly different  look.
  • Ordinary sewing thread- in a dark colour, or a bright colour
  • an old felt project- you don’t mind cutting into
  • small piece of silk gauze/tissue silk/chiffon/margilan (3 momme weight) or cotton cheesecloth or scrim- very sheer fabric.  10cm/ 4” wide by the length of the fabric
  • small piece of silk habotai/paj/ponge/margilan (5 momme weight)- very sheer fabric.  10cm/ 4” wide by the length of the fabric
  • lightweight yarn- wool, linen or silk. I like a fingering weight yarn…one used for socks or lightweight shawls. This will be used for stitching on the finished felt.
  • sharp sewing needle with a large eye for stitching with yarn.
  • Optional, but fun! Paint markers- like the UniPosca 3m blunt tip.

All of the quantities for each item are very small!

Bubblewrap- 2 pieces, each 60cm/24” square (can be a little larger, if  that’s what you have)

Soap, old towel, sharp scissors, warm water, small bucket/container for water.

These can all be items you have on hand- the idea is to reconnect and play with items you have while engaging in a creative exercise that provides sparks to bring forward into all of your feltmaking!
